Self-harm describes deliberating harming yourself. It doesn't matter how you do it or what you do, its still self-harm. People self-harm for a variety of reasons to express some emotion or feeling including trying to regain control, punishment, release of tension, frustration and distress​, to feel grounded. However, there are other ways to improve how you feel and release emotions without physically hurting yourself. Finding happiness, finding self-worth and feeling good about yourself are important things to achieve and there are resources below to help you do this without hurting.
