Supporting girls to not feel anxious about being single
Being anxious about being single is, quite frankly, a complete waste of your time.
It's easy to feel that you should be dating if your friends are or because you have a crush on someone or because you want to feel pretty.
But you know what? You still have years ahead of you and the chances are most/many will be filled with a partner.
So here's some advice on how to make the most of being single and being able to do what you want, happily!
It's okay to be single.
It's not enough to say "it's okay to be single". It would be far better to say "it's great to be single". The trouble is, sometimes at the time, it doesn't always feel like that.
The most important thing about being single is, crikey, where do you start?
- You still have all your options open to you. When you go to a party, all of the single people are available.
- You can do what you want to do when you want to do it. You can live your life exactly the way you want to without having to consider what someone else wants you to do.
Want to go shopping? Go shopping. Want to lie in bed until 11.00?
Fine - do exactly that!
- Don't get me wrong. A healthy relationship is a great thing but please don't make it out to be something it isn't. Just listen to your friends moaning about there partners and you will soon get my drift.
- Being in a relationship means you will have to make sacrifices. Quite often those sacrifices are to please other people. They are not choices that you might make yourself.
Single women call the shots.
You will be surprised how strong you are as a single woman. There's a very good reason for that. You are making all the decisions.
Yes, the single life has some, shall we say, lonely moments now and then. From experience, I can paint a totally different picture. The grass is always greener on the other side.
You would be shocked to know how many people in a relationship would love to swap places with you.
So be careful what you wish for.
Most times you only see the public face of a couple in a social environment. Behind closed doors, there's another story to tell.
So feel good about your independence and what you stand for. Believe me, there will be many years ahead of you when you you will not have the freedoms to do what you like, when you like and with who you like.
